A roof that can't breathe cooks in summer and builds ice dams in winter, and both shorten the life of the shingles. We balance intake at the soffits with exhaust at the ridge so air actually moves through the attic.
Ventilation is usually corrected during a re-roof, when the deck is open, but it can be done on its own. Ask about it at your free inspection.
